Mario Ybarra Jr and our Teen Camp

Artist Mario Ybarra Jr. came to the Art Center as part of our Home of the Free exhibition programming. On Thursday, August 10th, Mario discussed artwork made by prisoners in the California jail system, and the reason he had an interest in the work, relating stories of childhood friends who’ve spent more of their lives in the jail system than outside of it. He also related the community work he does through his gallery and youth organizations.

The next day Mario spent some time working with our Session 4 Teen Camp. Here are some images from his time with the kids.
