The Hyde Park Art Center will be closed for two weeks while we have our floors sanded, leveled and repainted! Brand spanking new floors which will be the envy of Art Center’s all over the country!
Until then, please enjoy your holiday! We are closed starting Monday, December 18th until Monday, January 1st, and reopening Tuesday, January 2nd. There may be occassional updates on the blog. Anyone want to hear about my vacation?
We had a fantastic group down at the Art Center for our second TalkShop program. The group heard from a panel consisting of representatives from several smaller media organizations including Co Op Image Group, the Video Data Bank, FreeStreet Media, Chicago Children’s International Film Festival, and Inferno Studios, each of whom delivered a Mini-Manifesto. After lunch, everyone headed upstairs to the Thurow Digital Studios to participate in some hands on digital art making. Were you here? Tell us what you thought? Wish you could have made it? As some have already heard, Dale Hillerman very unexpectedly passed away on Monday night. Dale was a wonderfully unique person and a great friend. A great volunteer and patron of the Art Center, his presence always brightened every event he took part in. Please share any thoughts and remembrances you may have of Dale here. He will be dearly missed.
Just in time for the first real snow of the year, our winter newsletter arrives! Registration is now OPEN for our Winter Session of classes, which will start on January 8th, 2007! Stop by the Art Center to pick up a newsletter, or if you’re on our mailing list, keep an eye out for it in your mailbox. Your newsletters should be arriving soon! Also, if you just can’t wait, and feel an overwhelming need to check out upcoming exhibitions and classes, go ahead and visit the school and studio section of the website. You’ll find links for adult and youth classes there. Alright folks, now it’s time to register away. Early registration discounts end on December 16th, 2006! What are you waiting for?!
The Art Center prepares to brave its first winter and first real snowfall in the new building. And what a snowfall! Three to seven inches coming down on Chicago, with more possible this weekend. Anyone have any good tips on how to keep an Art Center toasty? Hope everyone bundles up and stays warm over the weekend!
