Crossing State Lines
HPAC’s Creative Events Committee (the group that brings you Creative Move, Cocktails & Clay, Fun For All, and more) is branching out…to Michigan! Only a short car ride away, and full of Chicagoans and art lovers, the towns of Three Oaks, Union Pier, Lakeside, and Sawyer are perfect places to engage the artistic community. We spent the day there in early July to get a feel for the area and make some plans…
Joining the committee for the day were honorary members Deone Jackman, Janis Kanter, and Tom McCormick. We began with lunch at Michelle Olson’s Union Pier home before moving on to the town of Three Oaks - we toured the main drag including boutiques, bookstores, and the Packer Schopf Gallery. Then it was on to the Round Barn Winery to check out their event space - and their wine, of course!

We rounded out the afternoon with a tour of the sculpture garden at the Sawyer home of Janis and Tom. Winding pathways through thick, high grasses created a maze - the reward for navigating it properly was discovering unexpected outcroppings of sculptural installations, each with its own story.

All in all, it was a creative, productive, and fun day! We’ll announce some Michigan events soon. Stay tuned!
