Is that...could it be....Istria is....coming soon?

That;s what it looks like folks! White paper in the windows, a fairly unattractive new wall put up in the entryway to the cafe space, and signs! Istria is coming soon! Keep your eyes peeled and we’ll keep you posted on an official opening date.

What is your favorite sound?

Stockyard Institute and the Experimental Sound Studio are collaborating on Favorite Chicago Sounds that will feature the Hyde Park neighborhood. They are asking people to select areas in Hyde Park where their favorite sounds happen. They will then collect those sound sites, and working with the Chicago Park District and the city, develop permanent signs that mark the site. The project will be introduced (in the Hyde Park neighborhood) during the Outer Ear Festival of Sound in late November of this year. The more contributors the better. The sound sites and their exact location can be emailed to the Stockyard Institute. Please participate!

Park(ing) Day 2007

Cool stuff happens in this city! Check it out:

National Park(ing) Day!

Head over to Milwaukee Avenue, just east of Western Ave, and see several of these parking spaces that have been turned into temporary public parks! The Trust for Public Land is offering free info, cupcakes and even a wishing tree.

Cocktails and Clay...with a special performance

Not only did this month’s Cocktails and Clay please the crowd with hot beats from the DJ, drinks flowing from the bar, and rotating clay workshops, the highlight of the night was an animated performance by third Swan from the end, a group of voguers, improvisers, and contemporary dancers, who never ceased to rouse the crowd with its energetic vibes and vigorous movements.

What's in a number?

What do these things have in common?

The number of tracks on the Beatles’ White Album
The number of days in April, June, September, and November…
The code for international direct calls to Greece…
The second point that is scored by one side in tennis…
The interstate that runs from Texas to Arkansas…
The number of times that Ray has travelled around the sun…
