Get to know the HPAC crew: Allison Peters!

Enjoy the next installment of our series on the great staff at HPAC. Today’s featured staff memeber is Allison Peters, Director of Exhibitions!

As Director of Exhibitions, Allison Peters curates about twenty out of the thirty or so shows that take place at HPAC every year. Although she jokingly calls herself the “Director of Nobody,” Allison is busy creating interesting and stimulating shows to go up in the HPAC galleries, maintaining those shows and writing both brochures and grant proposals since her arrival here in 2004. Allison, who grew up in Evanston, studied art history at the University of Wisconsin and continued on to Bard College to earn her graduate degree in curatorial studies.

Allison loves the way the outside community interacts with HPAC and how active and unpredictable it is. She also likes the faster pace here versus that of other galleries. The painting that sparked and encouraged Allison’s interest in the arts is “Ophelia” by John Everett Millais because she was taken aback by how a scene could be painted so realistically and yet may never have existed.
