Get to know the HPAC crew: Chris Hammes!
Only three more to go in our series on the HPAC staff! Enjoy today’s post on Chris Hammes, Preparator and Media Technician.

Chris Hammes, the Preparator and Media Technician, is HPAC’s one-man-show. He is the man when it comes to exhibit installation and de-installation and coordinating the the facade display. Chris has to continually seek the balance between working quickly enough to get everything done for a show and working slowly enough so as not to damage any of the art work that he handles. His greatest asset is that he is flexible in his talents and is often able to anticipate the needs of a particular show. This School of the Art Institute of Chicago graduate worked in freelance art installation before coming to the Hyde Park Art Center in 2006.
Chris, originally from Sigourney, IA (pronounced sig-er-nee… not like the actress), is an artist who has dabbled in many different media. Once he has mastered one medium he finds something new that he knows nothing about and dives into it. His favorite parts about working at HPAC are all the different things he does on a daily basis and learning from the artists that he interacts with. Although there are many others on his list, Chris enjoys the work of Sarah Sze and Paul Thek.
