It's been a blast!
It’s my last day so it’s time to say goodbye!
Although four weeks can be a long time, it seems like just yesterday that I wrote my first blog entry about my May Project here at HPAC. The time has flown by and I’ve enjoyed every minute of it! I have learned more than I ever expected I would about the Art Center, about people, about non-profits, about art and even about the importance of busy work. No matter what I was doing, I always felt like my work was going to help an extremely worthy cause. I spent hours stuffing brochures, sorting picture files and cleaning out supply closets and I was always eager to sit down at the computer and use Quark to create a new flyer or sign. It was a blast being with Ray and Michelle because there’s NEVER a dull moment in their office! I also had a lot of fun with the kids in Hardy’s Wednesday and Thursday ceramics classes helping them create and glaze their work. I enjoyed and benefitted (more than I can express) from talking with the staff members and learning about their backgrounds, both educational and otherwise, and how they came to be at HPAC and then writing their staff profiles for the blog. By learning about their experiences, I have been able to further shape my own aspirations for the future. I’m sure most of you can relate when I say that it’s hard to figure out what you want to do with your life! My mom sometimes jokes and says that she’s still figuring out what she wants to do when she grows up. Although I’m not making any final decisions right now, my at HPAC was invaluable to me and an immense help in showing me a few of the options that are out there for when I eventually “grow up.” My experiences at the Hyde Park Art Center far exceeded what I had hoped for May Project. I had a lot of fun and learned an incredible amount by doing rather than just listening or watching something be done. I have had so many hands-on experiences at the Art Center and I know that what I’ve learned here will be extremely helpful as I try to shape my future.
Thanks for everything!
Hillary
