We'll eat you up, we love you so!

Imagine looking up from your office computer and seeing twenty little paper plate masks adorned with sequins, feathers and crepe paper staring back at you. Then picture these masked munchkins raising their hands into claws and beginning to “roar their terrible roars” and “gnash their terrible teeth.”

Last week the Hyde Park Art Center played host these costumed apparitions as another summer camp session came to an end.

The camp’s closing program included a rendition of Maurice Sendak’s Where the Wild Things Are (1988). A pageant of “wild things” paraded through the halls (and offices) of the Art Center with students dressed in masks, costumes and props they made in class. Later students gathered in 4833 to act out scenes from the award-winning children’s book in front of families and friends.

Registration for fall course term is now open. To register, visit signup.hydeparkart.org or call 773.324.5520.

Talking Point with Melinda Fries

IMG_1603.jpg

Repetition, Games, Chocolate, $$$$$, Animals, Desire, Radio, Doubt, and Superstition are just some of the topics featured on this month’s Talking Point artist Melinda Fries’ website, www.ausgang.com. For the past 9 years she has been working on this website, calling it “a kind of conversation visual people can have.” With pizza & beer, a book exchange, a CD burning station, and conversation it turned out to be a great evening at the Art Center!

Check out her website and join us for Talking Point with Joan Giroux on Monday September 8, 2008!
