Artist Statement
Making performance art works within space of the public’s everyday, I find a fine balance between creating a disturbance - which limits the audience from self-driven interpretations, and creating resonance - with gestures folding into the fabric of conventional behavior, its doubts and challenges rising at the edge of one’s periphery. A good performance has presence in an unfamiliar place yet belongs there, so that the viewer is the one with the choice: react, ignore, stay, stare, engage. This is the shared experience of performative action.
p(callout)My interests are in subtle transformations: a feeling induces an aura; a stranger feels the change, disapproves, and frowns; the reaction bringing self-reflection, the reflection, a sorrow.
By magnifying the moments into hours, I seek to bring inspiration into long forgotten joys and a sense of relevance to the escaping hours of the everyday.
