Changes at Istria Cafe

Istria Cafe3We are disappointed to report that Istria Café’s management made the difficult decision to close their doors on Sunday, January 20. The Art Center is committed to ensuring that the space formerly occupied by Istria continues to be used as a welcoming place for the community to gather. To that end, we are actively working with Istria's owner to make this a seamless transition.

We will keep up-to-date information about this transition on our blog, and welcome any questions or comments. You are invited to submit feedback via the comments section below.

Thank you for your patience during this process, and we look forward to having our community be a part of what’s to come!

First, we want to thank you all for your thoughtful feedback and great ideas. Your input helped us better understand how our café space can best serve the community and complement the Art Center’s existing programming.

Currently, we're in discussion with a few businesses interested in operating the space. We’ve also developed a Request for Proposals (RFP), which we have shared with all the businesses and organizations that have reached out to us expressing interest. The RFP outlines a handful of features that we understand are important to our community members, including:

  • Strong preference for a café model of business offering a variety of food and drink options
  • Emphasis on the location as an open community gathering and meeting space
  • Morning through early evening hours to support neighboring apartment complexes and the Art Center’s student community

We're hoping to gather all proposals by March 1st. With that information in hand, we'll continue to work towards finding the business that is the best fit for the space. So stay tuned!

As ever, we look forward to hearing your feedback as we continue this process. Let us know your thoughts in the comments.
