Shawn-Michael McGhie is a senior at Kenwood Academy, and 2014 was his first year participating in Hyde Park Art Center's teen outreach programs, Youth Art Board and ArtShop. Shawn-Michael creates vibrantly hued portraiture, mostly working in pen and ink. His artwork is currently being shown in the exhibition ArtShop: Facetime, on view through August 9. We sat down with Shawn-Michael to ask him about what artmaking means to him and how his involvement at the Art Center has impacted his practice.
It's now more important than ever to ensure diversity in and access to the visual arts.
- access to arts education
- professional development for artists
- bringing national attention to Chicago's artists
