The Art Center at EXPO Chicago

Hyde Park Art Center was thrilled to be involved with EXPO Chicago again this year as a partner organization. The chance to connect with this enormous art-loving audience—not to mention showcase our artists and programs, and tell festivalgoers about the Art Center’s mission to support Chicago’s art and artists—is a tremendous opportunity that we are happy to be able to take advantage of.

This year, our booth offered a sneak preview of an upcoming show called A Study in Midwestern Appropriation , curated by co-curator of the 2014 Whitney Biennial. The show features sculptures, drawings, text-based work, photographs, prints, and collages by artists from Chicago, Detroit, Milwaukee, and Minneapolis, and will be on view at Hyde Park Art Center from September 29, 2013 through January 12, 2014.

To hear more about our experience at this year's EXPO, head over to the fair's official blog, The Seen: Chicago's International Art & Design Blog.

Visit Michelle Grabner at our EXPO booth

Fall 2013 Shows JumbotronIt's that time of year again: EXPO Chicago, the International Exposition of Contemporary/Modern Art, is upon us. Michelle Grabner, guest curator of the upcoming Art Center exhibition A Study in Midwestern Appropriation , will join us in Booth 102, where we'll be showcasing work by artists in the show. Grabner also has her hands full with quite a few other projects, including a major solo exhibition of her paintings at the Museum of Contemporary Art Cleveland, and co-curating the 2014 Whitney Biennial. Between her trips to Manawa, Wisconsin; Oak Park, Illinois; and New York City, we were able to catch up with Grabner to ask a few questions about the artist/curator life balance. Stop by our EXPO booth for more! And don't forget to come to the exhibition reception on Sunday, October 6.

Featuring large-scale architectural structures, sculptures, and yes, live horses, the show really takes the audience for a ride. And making it happen was no small feat. Read on to find out about Jeremiah's most nerve-wracking moments, and who he wants to high five. And be sure to catch the horses in the galleries at one of the exhibition's related events throughout the run of the show, on view through July 28.
