Sparked by her participation in The Center Program, Hyde Park Art Center's artist professional development initiative, abstract painter and color authority Amanda Williams has plans to move her ongoing series, Color(ed) Theory, from the digital sphere to brick & mortar—coating a South Side home in the deep-fried hue of Harold's Chicken Red. But that's not all Williams has been up to. Having created three commissions for Hyde Park Art Center’s fourth iteration of Not Just Another Pretty Face in 2010, Williams has taken on the role of patron during this year's iteration of the collaborative commissioning project. We talked with Amanda about her experiences with the Art Center, the status of Color(ed) Theory, and her patronage in this year’s run of Not Just Another Pretty Face, which opened this past Saturday.
It's now more important than ever to ensure diversity in and access to the visual arts.
- access to arts education
- professional development for artists
- bringing national attention to Chicago's artists
