Behind the Scenes with exhibiting artist Jeremiah Hulsebos-Spofford

Hallof Khan By Jason Smith 1543In this post in our "Behind the Scenes with an Artist" series, Jackman Class Resident Artist Jeremiah Hulsebos-Spofford takes us inside his studio—and his head—sharing his process and his mindset leading up to the opening of his first solo show, Hall of Khan. The culmination of his residency at the Art Center, Hall of Khan is big and bold, both in concept and execution. Featuring large-scale architectural structures, sculptures, and yes, live horses, the show really takes the audience for a ride. And making it happen was no small feat. Read on to find out about Jeremiah's most nerve-wracking moments, and who he wants to high five. And be sure to catch the horses in the galleries at one of the exhibition's related events throughout the run of the show, on view through July 28.

Meet Jackman Class resident Jeremiah Hulsebos-Spofford

Jeremiah HeadshotChicago-based artist Jeremiah Hulsebos-Spofford has been in residence at the Art Center since September 2012. Each year The Residency will invest in one emerging Chicago artist who is taking on an ambitious and challenging project that will push his or her practice forward—and could not take place without the Art Center’s support. This year Jeremiah is just that artist, and the project is Hall of Khan, a large-scale installation that will be on view in the Art Center’s main gallery from April 14 - July 28. We talked with Jeremiah to hear his thoughts on participating in the first year of The Residency and how it has impacted his work.
