The Hyde Park Art Center announces its first Collector Workshop Series, Collecting 2.0 to be launched in January 2009.
This four-part series, led by Karen Lennox, will give exclusive and behind-the-scenes look at art collecting in Chicago.
This session: Art as an Investment: Can you make money off of buying art? How about on purpose?
Saturday, January 24th, 2-4pm
Richard Gray Gallery and Sotheby’s
Much is in the media about the soaring prices of art - Jeff Koons’ sculptures selling for tens of millions of dollars at auction and Damien Hirst’s diamond-studded skull - as two examples. But what about the little guy? Can I capitalize on my art purchases (and should I try?)? We will speak to the director of the Richard Gray Gallery, as well as visit Sotheby’s to learn about the possibilities - and pitfalls - of buying art for an investment.
Gallery Night: Explore Chicago’s gallery scene either with a group or on your own. You’ll be given tips of what to look for and questions to ask!
