Hyde Park Art Center classes are designed to benefit a broad range of student interests and skill levels. Classes are small and individual instruction and support are important elements of the learning experience in our studios. Students may join a class at any level in which they are comfortable. To help you find the best class for you, programs have been divided into the following skill levels:
Gateway: For students with no previous art-making experience. Gateway classes introduce students to new media and basic techniques.
Foundation: Open to students with some previous experience in art. These classes introduce new skills and techniques and build foundational knowledge and skills.
Expansion: Further development of technical art-making skills. Classes will help students to investigate new concepts and develop their artistic vision. Previous art-making experience in the specified media is highly recommended.
Exploration: Some classes are open to both novice and advanced students. Projects in these classes are appropriate for all skill levels.
We strongly encourage advance registration for our 5- or 10-week courses, as we will cancel courses if there are fewer than 5 students pre-registered by the first class meeting. Although we do not endorse missing class sessions, for 10 weeks we do sometimes allow half session registration (for the first or last 5 weeks of a course).
The Art Center has a limited number of partial scholarships available. Download a scholarship application [PDF] and mail or fax it to the Art Center. We also offer numerous registration discounts! For more information about registration, scholarships, or registration discounts please contact School & Studio Director Michelle Beckett at mbeckett@hydeparkart.org or 773-324-5520 x1007.
