Course Levels

Hyde Park Art Center classes are designed to benefit a broad range of student interests and skill levels. Classes are small and individual instruction and support are important elements of the learning experience in our studios. Students may join a class at any level in which they are comfortable. To help you find the best class for you, programs have been divided into the following skill levels:

Beginner: For students with no previous artmaking experience or students new to the type of artmaking offered in a course. Beginner courses introduce students to new media and basic techniques.

Intermediate: Designed for students with some previous experience in the media being taught. These courses introduce new skills and techniques that build on foundational knowledge.

Advanced: For students seeking further development of technical artmaking skills. Courses will help students investigate new concepts and develop their artistic vision. Previous experience in the specified media is highly recommended.

Multi-Level: These courses offer individualized instruction to all students, from novice to advanced. Projects in these courses are appropriate for all skill levels.

Registration

We strongly encourage advance registration for our 5- or 10-week courses, as we will cancel courses if there are fewer than 5 students pre-registered by the first class meeting. Although we do not endorse missing class sessions, for 10 weeks we do sometimes allow half session registration (for the first or last 5 weeks of a course).

Scholarship Opportunities

The Art Center has a limited number of partial scholarships available. Download a scholarship application [PDF] and mail or fax it to the Art Center. We also offer numerous registration discounts!
