Are you a high school artist looking for a time and place to further your art work and meet others like you? Do you need more exposure to art, access to studio time, and guidance from experienced teaching artists? Art Shop is a tuition-free, independent project program designed for South Side high school artists. Check out images from the Artshop Pilot Program here, from our Flickr set.

Art Shop requires students to complete an application form (below). Applicants are asked to present a vision for their project. How many pieces will you be aiming to complete? How long will your video be? What supplies will you require? How would you like the final project to look? The application form helps answer these questions, allowing staff to be better prepared to help and making sure this program is a good fit.

The Spring 2013 program will begin on Friday, April 5th and will meet for 10 weeks, until Friday, June 7th. Meetings will be held at Hyde Park Art Center (5020 South Cornell) between 4pm and 6pm. Artists should not miss any meetings. Artists who miss more than three (3) meetings will be dropped from the program. Please check your schedule and with your parents to make sure that you can participate in this program BEFORE YOU APPLY!

Art Shop students will have access to the following studios at the Art Center: Drawing, Painting, Digital, Photo Darkroom, Silkscreen, Printmaking, Ceramics, and Mixed Media. In addition, students will have a $50 supply stipend, to purchase materials with the help of Art Center staff. Finally, artists will also have access to a teaching team will help project development and push students towards completing meaningful projects!

While this program is free of tuition, there is a $50 deposit for each student. The deposit will be returned upon completion of the program. Art Shop students who fail to complete the program will forfeit their deposit.

Registration for Spring 2013 is currently OPEN. Feel free to apply by filling out the form below (make sure to press "submit" when done!) If you have any questions about future Artshop offerings, please contact Director of Education Mike Nourse at mnourse@hydeparkart.org.
