Chris Kennedy, president of the Merchandise Mart Properties, Inc. (MMPI) is flying high in the art world today as he hosts Art Chicago, April 27 – 30 at the Merchandise Mart, and he will land at the old Meigs Field Terminal on Chicago’s Northerly Island as the Art Center’s annual spring gala honoree. Kennedy is being honored for the impact that Art Chicago will have on the city and the art world.
“I am pleased that the Hyde Park Art Center is honoring Chris Kennedy,” said Valerie Jarrett, previous Art Center honoree and Chair of this year’s Gala. “Chris leads by example. He consistently demonstrates how important art is to the health and economy of our City.”
The Art Center’s Gala will be the first major event that any charitable organization hosts at the old Meigs Field. There is a rising level of excitement and interest about how to turn an airport terminal into a Gala venue and the “creative black tie” event will serve as the maiden journey for this new Northerly Island destination. According to Chicago’s Commissioner of Cultural Affairs, Lois Weisberg, “It is very important that the Hyde Park Art Center has picked Chris Kennedy to honor. If anybody deserves this honor, it’s Chris. And who better to honor Chris than the Art Center?”
