The Hyde Park Art Center’s annual benefit auction Just Good Art made its first appearance at our new building at 5020 S. Cornell, Chicago on Saturday September 30 at 7:30pm featuring over 100 of Chicago greatest artists. This year’s donating artists were asked to keep one of the oldest art-making methods in mind: drawing. Using a variety of media, the artists explored how the characteristics and processes of drawing affect their sculpture, paintings, photographs and collages.
One of Chicago’s favorite cultural critics and radio personality’s Victoria Lautman, was the Master of Ceremonies of the event and hosted the live auction on September 30. At the close of Just Good Art, the celebration will continue with an exclusive after-party with drinks and DJs spinning in the main gallery. Tickets for the auction and after-party are $30 for members and $35 for non-members. Advance bids on auction items are accepted and proxy bidding can be arranged with Art Center staff before the event. Valet parking will be available.
Just Good Art continues the tradition of catering to both novice and seasoned art collectors by offering a unique opportunity to purchase new works by well-respected artists, at very reasonable costs while supporting one of Chicago’s oldest art institutions. All proceeds from the auction go to the Art Center’s Exhibitions and Education programming. This year the auction will feature work by Robert Amft, Max King Cap, Laura Davis, James Garrett Faulkner, Dianna Frid, Jennifer Greenburg, John Himmelfarb, Jo Hormuth, Anna Kunz, Robert Lostutter, Lorraine Peltz, John Phillips, Mark Phillips, Joanne Scott, Deb Sokolow, Buzz Spector, Chuck Walker, Mel Watkin, Glenn Wexler, Mary Lou Zelazny, and many more.
Just Good Art will be on view September 18 - 30, 2006. The auction is on Saturday, September 30, 7:30 to 10:30pm at the Hyde Park Art Center, 5020 S. Cornell, Chicago, IL. Please visit www.hydeparkart.org or call (773) 324-5520 for more information on the exhibition and related events.
