October 15 — December 17, 2006, Gallery 2 & 3
by Academy Records
Le Conqueroo, a new large scale installation and performance by the Chicago-based group Academy Records, is a site specific installation incorporating film, mixed media, and live and recorded drums. This new project explores the effects of rhythm and its relation to the physical space and is the final installment in the series of three works that studies projection, magick, and forms of resistance.

Academy Records works in media ranging from traditional visual art forms to performances, sonic works, and staged events. It creates and distributes sound and performance projects examining the social experience of works of art. Distribution is the subject matter for the continued reworking of recognizable idioms. Their collaborative, ephemeral, and visual works reflect on contemporary culture through the language of popular music, consumer culture and other genres.
This exhibition featuring Academy Records is part of Chicago Artists Month, the eleventh annual celebration of Chicago’s vibrant visual art community. In October, 250 exhibitions of emerging and established artists, openings, demonstrations, tours, open studios and neighborhood art walks take place at galleries, cultural centers and arts buildings throughout the city. Additional support is provided by the Chicago Office of Tourism and Podmajersky, Inc. Chicago Artists Month is coordinated by the Chicago Department of Cultural Affairs.
