Drive By

January 25 – April 20, 2008, The Jackman Goldwasser Catwalk Gallery, 3 -10 pm daily

The exhibition ran daily from 3 pm to 10 pm.
Outside viewing hours begin at 5 pm.

Drive-By, an exhibition of video works created by MFA students in a seminar course at the University of Illinois Chicago’s School of Art and Design, was on view in the Art Center’s Jackman Goldwasser Catwalk Gallery. Led by professor and artist Daniel Sauter, the exhibition was the culmination of a 2007 seminar exploring media projection and technology, recent developments in public art, and the Art Center’s location within its surrounding residential neighborhood.

A joint collaboration between HPAC and UIC, Drive-By not only provided students with an apt venue for their work but also augmented the Art Center’s aim to fully explore the potential of its internally and externally accessible digital gallery. Alongside readings and discussion, students in the seminar course received criticism and advice from a range of guest speakers, including artists Doug Ischar, Jennifer Montgomery, Sabrina Raaf, and Doug Garofalo. Utilizing UIC’s state-of-the-art public projection technology, students created final works specifically for the Art Center’s catwalk gallery.

A group of guest panelists selected seven works that each ran separately for two weeks over the three month exhibition. A compilation of the selected works ran from January 25 - 27. The rest of the schedule is listed below.
