July 6 - October 12, 2008, Gallery 4
Kiss on the Cheek, is a solo exhibition of nearly eighty new portraits by South Shore artist and Art Center faculty member Dale Washington. The portrait paintings, drawings, and assemblages on view highlight Washington’s vast technical ability to successfully make work in both figurative and abstract styles. Made over the past year, the works included in Kiss on the Cheek document the personalities in the current moment of Chicago’s art collecting community, including contemporary art collectors, artists, and art administrators throughout Chicago’s many neighborhoods.
Dale Washington is a teaching artist at the Hyde Park Art Center. He received a B.A. from Columbia College and attended Columbus College of Art and Design and the University of Wisconsin-Madison. He was the recipient of the 2003 Artist of the Year Award from the Southside Community Art Center. Recent exhibitions include group exhibitions at Gruen Gallery, the South Shore Cultural Center, the Southside Community Art Center, and Miijiza’s Gallery. Washington is a featured artist in the catalogue African Art: The Diaspora and Beyond, documenting the collection of Chicagoan Daniel Parker.
The artwork in this exhibition has been made possible with the support of a Chicago Artist Assistance Program grant from the City of Chicago.
