Submission Guidelines

The Hyde Park Art Center is dedicated to stimulating and sustaining the quality of the visual arts in Chicago. Each year, the Art Center presents a variety of contemporary art exhibitions in sculpture, sound, video, installation, photography, painting and alternative media. With 6 galleries, the Art Center can now hold more than 25 exhibitions a year.

The Art Center welcomes submissions of artists’ work and curatorial proposals for group exhibitions on an ongoing basis. Submissions are accepted on a rolling basis and reviewed by the Exhibitions Committee. The Committee structure is currently under reconstruction. Please allow between 4 to 6 months for a response for a submission regarding exhibition possibilities. Artists are highly recommend to visit the Art Center BEFORE submitting an exhibition proposal.

The Art Center preferences exhibiting challenging and innovative work in all media by Chicago-area artists. Proposals that address social, political or technological issues or present other intriguing topics in a unique and intelligent manner receive special consideration. The Art Center favors artists with diverse backgrounds and encourages proposals that explore the discourse of contemporary art and culture. Please note we do not accept proposals for group exhibitions curated by artists who have included themselves in the exhibition being proposed.

The Jackman Goldwasser Catwalk Gallery

The Art Center features an 80 ft. long x 10 ft. tall digital video projection facade called the Jackman Goldwasser Catwalk Gallery. Proposals for this gallery should utilize the public function of the gallery, which can be seen from outside at night.

The system is outfitted with 10 LED projectors controlled by 6 computers and works best with video generated by software. When showing video works, the system runs on a program called Watchout by Dataton. Typically, this system runs 5-channels simultaneously to produce a panoramic image or to maintain the largest dimension of the screen. The interior gallery is outfitted with a 7-channel sound system. A 2-channel sound system is audible from the exterior of the building and has the ability to run the same or a separate sound than the interior sound.
