The Welcome Wagon: Open invitation for Project Participation

Artist J Hill in conjunction with The Hyde Park Art Center is seeking creative people including but not limited to performance artists, musicians, comedians, visual artists, media artists, poets, dancer/choreographers, writers, outdoorsman, naturalists, puppeteers, chefs and foodies, vocalists, spoken word artists, craftspeople, storytellers, actors, etc. interested in participating in an ongoing, mobile performance based project initiated and constructed by Houston-based artists J Hill. The project seeks to provide a truly public venue for creative people which can be located and relocated in various neighborhoods through-out Chicago (especially in Chicago's south-side). In as much as the project is highly mobile Mr. Hill hopes to provide a platform that ties people, places and activities together using The Welcome Wagon as the transitional device and connective tissue. Project Background The Welcome Wagon is an ongoing project of artist J Hill which is literally modeled on Mr. Hill's own front porch yet it is retractable, mounted on a wagon and easily pulled behind a bicycle. As an artwork it is part traveling minstrel cart, part retractable front porch, part social sculpture and part performance venue. The Welcome Wagon can accommodate any kind of presentation...it even has a movie screen, to date "performance" examples include musical performances, art performances, literary readings, clogging performances, ice cream making lessons, broadcast location for a pirate radio station, dog tricks, and of course as a front porch from which to sit and tell stories!
