This class will explore abstract painting in the way of early modernist and contemporary artists such as De Kooning, Picasso, Braque, Pia Fries, and others old and contemporary. Each week students will reference an abstract artist and work in their style as a means to make an abstract painting. Students will work with collage, the palette knife, brushes and mediums such as pumice, modeling paste, and wax. Projects will range from abstracted still life to pure abstraction.
