Vincent van Gogh is popularly thought of as someone who worked spontaneously, impulsively, and straight from his emotions but quite the opposite is true. In this class, students will take inspiration from Vincent and plan out subject matter, format, and color scheme before actually starting to paint. Students can use sketches, notations, photos, other artworks, even dream journals to plan out pictures that have personal meaning. All media are welcome. Be ready to paint the first day. Bring some ideas or notes along with a small stretched canvas or other surface. A suggested supply list for various media is available online or by request.
