Students will use collage to explore specific problems relative to imagery, form and content through self-directed projects and exploration of individual themes. Topics include the sociopolitical history of collage and its significance as a tool of social criticism. This course explores alternatives to image making involving recycled and found imagery and materials. Students incorporate methods of cut and paste, rubbings, and transfer techniques with drawing and painting, patterning, and narration. This course includes individual and group critiques, lecture, readings, and discussion.
