Through the purity of pencil, students of any level can develop sensitivity, conviction, and a connection with the seen world. Students will use still life, landscape, the figure, and more to learn how line alone can render visible color, light, weight, texture, and the complex play between perceived depth and abstract surface. Students will later incorporate ink wash with pencil for tonal drawings, as well as explore line through pen and brush. To the first class, please bring #2B graphite pencils, 80lb drawing pad (about 11×17), hard eraser, and pencil sharpener.
