Two Sundays!
July 18 and July 25
1:00-4:00 pm
This workshop is an introduction to making your own basic painting materials: supports (panels), grounds (traditional gesso) and paint (including oil, egg tempera, and casein). Understanding how these materials are made will give you insight into the history of painting “technology” and a greater understanding of the working methods of the masters. Students will learn how to make different grounds, mediums, supports, and paints, rather than buying them off the shelf, which can save money and in many instances, be an improvement in quality. Move beyond the limitations of pre-manufactured products (such as sizes, shapes, consistency). Students will also have the opportunity to paint with egg tempera and casein and create/experiment on a small scale project of your choosing.
