For the past eleven years I have been working on a photographic project that explores the emotional, physical, psychological, and environmental effects that mental illness has had on my family. In a broader sense, I am interested in creating photographs that explore personal identity and the way that is altered and shaped by our environments.
Option 1: Create a large-scale portrait of subject(s) within a space/place of importance using a 4×5 (large format camera)
Option 2: Create a series of small photographs that weave together portraits, landscapes, spaces, still lifes, found photographs, and drawings to tell a personal story that will be presented as a loose form book in box.
Prior to the photo shoot I would like to spend a short period of time interviewing/observing the patron to learn more about their daily lives, interests, experiences, etc. Based on their personal accounts and my observations we will work collaboratively to create the intimate photograph(s).
