My work is inspired by curiosity. My process is driven by it. 90% of what I work is automatic. I start with a shape and I work blindly until a face reveals itself to me. When I work this way I am just as delighted at the site of my finished product as I hope that viewer/patron is. Each creation is something brand new, and carries an unexpected charm, I believe that charm that comes with seeing something new is important. New things bring me hope.
I draw and sculpt, faces mostly. I’ve been drawing futuristic/alien/foreign portraits/masks of black warriors, dignitaries, nobles, and royals. I create these pieces from a want to connect to my roots. Like many Africans across the Diaspora, my roots are unknown to me. In a way, I create from that blindness.
