My name is Osei Agyeman-Badu and I am a certified art instructor and artists that reside on the southside of Chicago. For the past 10 years I have focused my skills on the medium of pyrography (woodburning). Most of the artwork that I create are on various types of wood and has fire, fabric and paint incorporated into it.
My submissions this year include 2 pieces from my Afronauts series and 3 pieces from the music world and how it inspires me. Afronauts Is a graphic novel/film about 3 siblings who are born in space. They are not like ordinary humans, being able to breathe in the space atmosphere sets them apart from others. The three pieces for the music world include Aretha Franklin, Stevie Wonder, BB King and Dizzy Gillespie.
I was first introduced to Not Just a Pretty Face program by Corey Williams Owner of gallery 3 4 5 and also an avid art collector. The program gave me exposure that I would not have had if I did not participate in 3 years ago. Fast forward and I can truly say that it was a great decision for my career. Programs like this gave me the inspiration to keep on creating and dedicate time to my craft.
