As an artist working with a progressive muscular disability, I use painting to explore the struggle between a fast-moving mind and a slow-moving body. In my current work, I use broad, gestural brushstrokes as well as tiny, deliberate marks to find balance between defying the constraints of my disability while accepting its progression. Using paint in these two different ways allows me to recapture the sense of movement that I have lost, while teaching me to slow down . The end result of this process is very enabling and liberating for me. My practice is an optimistic and joyful one, full of possibilities.
