Just Breathe is a collaborative installation based around the 2013 Gage Park Summer Contemporary Painting Program with After School Matters and Hyde Park Art Center Teaching Artist James Jankowiak. Students from neighborhood high schools have reflected the montage of daily media coverage with their own front page layout. With over 80 individual panels painted in response to headlines and rhetoric, this exhibition answers the drama of news stories with a collection of hopes. Taken as individuals, each panel, each voice appears quiet, but when presented as a whole they begin to support and reaffirm each other in their call to solidarity.
