Build the Art Center archives!
Do you have 2D materials from the Art Center’s illustrious founding days, experimental adolescence, and fun-loving middle age? During our virile 75th anniversary year in 2014, we want to strengthen our archive by adding ephemera from 1939-1980. Artist and former board member, Patricia Swanson will be holding open hours to collect material from the public and discuss their significance. We welcome any interesting and unique ephemera.
Help us celebrate our history by donating the following items referencing the Art Center’s classes, exhibitions and events/benefits:
● Newspaper/Magazine clippings
● Exhibition checklists, press releases, catalogues, postcards
● Original copies of the Hyde Park Art Center history book (1939-1974)
What is Archive-A-Palooza?
Inspired by our 75th Anniversary, Archive-A-Palooza is year-long initiative and a public call to gather memorabilia (and stories) pertaining to the Art Center’s long history. Throughout 2014, the most interesting items will be on temporary display in our 4833rph library space. Additionally, Pentimenti Productions has generously provided found video footage of Art Center happenings, which will be on display in the foyer.
