June 7, 2013 @ 6:00 PM - 9:00 PM

As one of Chicago’s major exhibition venues, we understand that artists can seem elusive. Like the unicorn, artists are rare, mysterious, mythical creatures that can only be momentarily glimpsed through throngs of adoring people at exhibition openings, or—even more rarely—in the privacy of their cloistered studios, where the magic of making takes place concealed from the public’s prying eyes.

This ARTBAR takes artists out of those rarified scenes and brings them to you, where you’ll find them behind the bar, at the turntables, and in the studios. Order artist-conceived cocktails from artist bartenders, dance to artist-curated tunes, make requests from the artist DJ, and get up close and personal with artists teaching mini-workshops in ceramics and printmaking.

After just a few minutes at ARTBAR, you’ll realize artists ain’t unicorns—they’re just hard-working.

Featuring artists doing this stuff:

Artmaking workshops by Elke Claus, Cauleen Smith (17 ), Candice Latimer, & Susan Volk
Bartending by Jeremiah Hulsebos-Spofford (Hall of Khan ) & Cauleen Smith
Cocktails by Cauleen Smith, Lee Blalock (Neue ), and Erika Dudley (Art Center board member)
Music by Lee Blalock

Additional parking available across the street at Kenwood Academy, 5015 S Blackstone Ave.

$15 suggested donation covers artmaking materials and bites. Donations for drinks also appreciated.
