Artist Talk: Tintin Wulia

November 2, 2016 @ 6:00 PM - 7:00 PM

Please join Hyde Park Art Center as Jackman Goldwasser international resident artist Tintin Wulia discusses her practice and plans for activation of various locations around Chicago during her residency.

Tintin Wulia is a conceptual artist who makes socio-politically charged works presented in witty, often interactive and participatory artworks. Her background in architecture and music (B.Eng./Architecture, Universitas Katolik Parahyangan 1998 and B.Mus./Film Scoring, Berklee College of Music 1997) as well as her practice-based research training in art (PhD/Art, RMIT University 2014) contribute to her transdisciplinary works that are often process-based and systemic, taking place across mediums. She fuses installation, mural/drawing, video, sound and performance amongst others, hacking and repurposing ready-mades (IKEA products, neodymium magnets, living matter, surveillance cameras and arcade game machines), factoring the materials’ original systems into her work.

Wulia’s work has been shown at international platforms for contemporary art, including the Istanbul Biennial, Yokohama Triennale, Moscow Biennale, Sharjah Biennale, Gwangju Biennale, Jakarta Biennale, Yogyakarta Biennale and Asia Pacific Triennale. Tintin is an Australia Council for the Arts’ Creative Australia Fellow 2014-2016.
