Alex Starr will lead a performance workshop, interacting without and within the setting of The Beast, participants will actively experience games and exercises developed by Augusto Boal to explore greater group awareness and trust for the purpose of finding individual voices as a means to addressing conflict resolution.
Augusto Boal’s unique and energetic approach to using theatre explores the contours of community social awareness. He believed that all people could act, and that play is the key to unlocking creative states of spontaneity. Boal’s lively and hands on use of group improvisation and theatre games frees the body and voice, creating permission to experiment through performance and dialogue as a means to expand awareness and actualize social change within various community settings.
Although open to the public, the workshop is strongly recommended for administrators, teachers and community activists involved in encouraging education and advocacy for both adults and youth. Please RSVP by Thursday, limited space available! Email laura.shaeffer@gmail.com and wear comfortable clothing!
