Closing Reception and Workshop with Artists From In Bringing Forth and Warm Kitty, Soft Kitty

December 12, 2015 @ 1:00 PM - 3:00 PM

This event brings together two artists from each of the current shows and discusses their creative process by providing examples of how they conduct their studio practice as demonstrated through various artist-led participatory workshops.

Workshop duration: 30 minutes (each)

Location: Learning center

Warm Kitty, Soft Kitty workshops:

Alexandria Eregbu engages in daily acts of ritual to set the tone and shift into a creative mindset, encapsulated in the simple act of drinking tea. Over there own steamy mugs, participants will reflect upon their own rituals, creative and banal, that move their studio practice forward each day.

Whitney Huber mines the repetitive act of hand-weaving chainmail as means for meditation and motivation. Together, participants will create a network of chain-mail while meditating on their own creative fears and will identify ways to protect themselves from those fears.

In Bringing Forth workshops:

Lisa Jenschke will be activating the elevator as a metaphor for the ways artists make room (psychic, time-space, and physical) for their studio practice. Under Jenschke’s guidance, participants will be invited to create their own metaphors for practice.

Tim McMullen utilizes active repetition and parameters of time to shift drawings from representational into the abstract. With McMullen leading, participants will discover new tools for abstracting images while also breaking through artistic ruts.
