Double Feature: Screening of A Place to Stand & The Insiders

March 3, 2016 @ 6:00 PM - 8:00 PM

Film still from A Place to Stand (2016)

Join us for a double feature of two intriguing films! A Place to Stand (2015) is a film based on Jimmy Santiago Baca’s transformation from a functionally illiterate incarcerated person to an award-winning poet, novelist and screenwriter. A Place to Stand is inspired by Jimmy’s memoir of the same name, which explores the life and mind of a man whose early life was dominated by sadness, rejection, anger and pain, a man who embraced language as a balm for his battered spirit, a man who – through the power of poetry – finally found his place to stand. The Insiders (1970, 16mm film) portrays daily life at a state prison filmed by an incarcerated person at Missouri State Penitentiary for the NBC Educational Enterprises Series.

This event is presented in partnership with the Poetry Foundation.

This event is organized by Prison+Neighborhoods Arts Project.
