Join us for Flash Chats, an evening of rapid-fire presentations by exhibiting artists in the upcoming Art Center exhibition In Bringing Forth . Unlike the traditional artist talk format in which artists elucidate already finished work, in Flash Chats, the artists will present works-in-progress and share insights into their still-evolving thought processes, including questions they’re grappling with and decisions they’ve yet to make. The talks will be followed by an informal reception for audience members to meet the artists, ask more questions, and share feedback.
In Bringing Forth cracks open traditional notions of an artist’s studio practice to expose the underbelly, at once poetic and banal. Alternating between a wide lens and a microscope, artists in In Bringing Forth take a critical (and sometimes irreverent) look at their own approach to developing creative practice. Through carefully rendered paintings of pages plucked from reference texts; gestural 3-dimensional doodles; paintings accompanied by a visual glossary of source materials; performative metaphors for the psychic space and literal time that a studio practice demands, among other diverse strategies, the artists in this exhibition invite us to share in the wanderings, wonderings, decisions and discoveries embedded making their creative way through the world.
Artists include: Bo Brown, Deirdre Fox, Tom Gallagher, Stephanie Graham, Natalie Jacobson, Lisa Jenschke, Timothy McMullen, Tim Nickodemus, Jaxon Pallas, and Serene Wise.
