Jesse Malmed + You + You + You
Join us for the second iteration of the Ground Floor performance series, HAIRY CHOIR led by Jesse Malmed. This performance is most-likely-or-at-least-for-a-long-while the final iteration of this particular CHOIR project.
The text will be there – some parts borrowed, some parts new, some parts blue, etc.—a series of words you’ve heard but now in new orders. The choir is whoever is there—hopefully you, hopefully your friends and parents and kids.
Together we take a half hour to go phrase by phrase until the song is bursting with melodies and ideas, solos and responsive calls, genre studies and improvisations. Time is tight, but that’s not a new feeling. After thirty minutes of building and rehearsing, we take a moment to move (if not our bodies than our minds) from preparing to performing. The song is sung, the audience breaks down, the band breaks up. All welcome, all encouraged.
Choirs have formed and performed at sites like The Museum of Contemporary Art, The Chicago Cultural Center, ACRE, EXPO, 6018 North and Gallery 400. You may already be a member.
