Half Pint Poetics Opening Ceremonies & Preliminary Bouts

Join Kuumba Lynx in Gallery 1 for an elementary school poetry slam and end of year party! Onsite mini poetry writing workshops and free art-making activities will take place during the celebration and are open to all kids. Come hear what the youth poets have worked on during their 8 weeks in PUBLIC SCHOOL.

½ Pint Poetics is a Spoken Word & Poetry Writing project in the Kuumba Lynx program that engages students (ages 8-14) in arts making & learning so to increase their literacy skills all while encouraging cross-cultural competency, and youth dialogue through civic engagement. All year long, elementary school students participate in Spoken Word & writing workshops during & after school, facilitated by professional arts educators & teen slam poets. Classrooms are invited to participate in an array of arts & activism activities including service projects, opportunities to attend performances & work with professional urban artists, and publishing and recording exposure!

Kuumba Lynx is an important urban art and performance organization in Chicago that has been organizing free hip hop classes on Monday nights (5-7 pm) at the Art Center as part of the PUBLIC SCHOOL program.  This event is held in conjunction with PUBLIC SCHOOL.
