Objects on the Couch: The Meaning in Everyday Things

July 15, 2010 @ 6:00 PM - 7:00 PM

These days we all seem to have too much ‘stuff’. We collect all manner of objects and use them in our homes in carefully constructed displays. We are also fascinated by TV programs such as Clean House and Hoarding that reveal the depth of our obsession with things. But if we had to let go of objects we might be hard pressed to do it and to say just why it is we have kept many of them in the first place. The meaning in things is an extraordinary construction based on a combination of feelings and emotions joined to the impulses to collect and then display. Let’s look at your things and decipher the meaning! Bring photos of your displays at home for analysis. This talk will be led by Christine Atha in conjunction with the exhibitions Roger Brown: Calif. USA and The People’s Gallery of Everyday Objects. Thursday, July 15 6pm, FREE
