Facilitator Bios

Carol Ehlers is currently an independent curator and adjunct professor at Columbia College Chicago and is well known for the time she spent as curator of the collection at LaSalle Bank N.A., Chicago, (2001-2008), now Bank of America. She has been the director of three galleries in Chicago: Allan Frumkin Gallery (1978-1980), Ehlers Caudill Gallery (1989-1998), and Carol Ehlers Gallery (1998-2001). Among her publications in the field are: Rineke Dijkstra: Beach Portraits (2002, LaSalle Bank N.A.); Chicago Photographs: LaSalle Bank Photography Collection (2004, LaSalle Bank N.A.); and In Sight: Contemporary Dutch Photography from the Collection of the Stedelijk Museum, Amsterdam (2005, Stedelijk Museum, Amsterdam). Dawoud Bey is a professor of photography at Columbia College and a board member of the Hyde Park Art Center. Bey earned an MFA from Yale University School of Art, New Haven, Connecticut. His work has been presented in solo exhibitions in many major institutions, including the Contemporary Arts Museum Houston; Detroit Institute of Arts, Detroit; the Fogg Art Museum, Harvard University, Cambridge, Massachusetts, the Studio Museum in Harlem, New York; and the Walker Art Center, Minneapolis, to name a few. His photography has been acquired by the Art Institute of Chicago; Bibliothèque Nationale, Paris; The Brooklyn Museum, New York; The Museum of Modern Art, New York; and the Whitney Museum of American Art, New York, among other institutions.
