Panel: South Side Connections

December 13, 2015 @ 1:00 PM - 4:00 PM

This event requires registration.

South Side Connections is an afternoon of historical investigation co-presented by four long-standing South Side arts organizations: the Renaissance Society, the Hyde Park Art Center, the South Side Community Art Center, and the Smart Museum of Art.

This event is facilitated by the Renaissance Society as part of our Centennial program, and hosted by the Rebuild Foundation at the Stony Island Arts Bank. It aims to combine audiences, share unique and overlapping histories, and establish a foundation for future collaborations that can continue to nourish these communities.

Rebecca Zorach, Crowe Professor of Art History at Northwestern University, will present a lecture on historical points of intersection among the collaborating organizations. Representatives from each organization will then share various archival materials and ephemera in an “unfurling,” a form of experimental show-and-tell originated by Never The Same, which sees the archive as a beginning rather than an end. This activity will be led by artist Faheem Majeed.

This event is supported by the Terra Foundation for American Art, and presented in partnership with Hyde Park Art Center, South Side Community Art Center, the Smart Museum, Arts + Public Life, and Rebuild Foundation.

This event is part of the Renaissance Society’s Centennial program.
