Poetry & Art-Making with William Estrada at National Museum of Mexican Art

Educators, poets, and art lovers are invited to take part in a poetry writing workshop and art making project led by William Estrada on Saturday, September 30th from 12:00 pm – 3:00 pm at the National Museum of Mexican Art!

Participants will enjoy a guided walkthrough of the Carlos Cortéz 100 Años exhibition before the workshop to draw inspiration. This program is a collaboration between the National Museum of Mexican Art and Hyde Park Art Center during the exhibitions William Estrada: Multiples & Multitudes (at Hyde Park Art Center) and the centennial commemoration of Carlos Cortéz’s legacy.

This workshop is for adults ages 18 years+. $10 registration non-refundable fee includes all materials needed. Additionally, educators who participate in this workshop will be able to earn Continuing Professional Development Unit (CPDUs) credits. Email to register. Space is limited.

About the artist:

William Estrada is an arts educator and multidisciplinary artist. His art and teaching are a collaborative discourse that critically re-examines public and private spaces with people to engage in radical imagination. He has presented in various panels regarding community programming, arts integration, and social justice curricula. He is currently a faculty member at the UIC School of Art and Art History and a teaching artist at Telpochcalli Elementary School. William is engaging in collaborative work with the Mobilize Creative Collaborative, Chicago ACT Collective, and Justseeds Artists’ Cooperative. His current research is focused on developing community based and culturally relevant projects that center power structures of race, economy, and cultural access in contested spaces that provide a space to collectively imagine just futures.
