Join us for an afternoon of lively conversation with some of Chicago’s leading arts educators and creative thinkers. As an extension of The Playground—the culminating curatorial project in the exhibition Fast Forward : Rewind : Play at Hyde Park Art Center—we’ll be investigating the reciprocal relationship between teaching and making art.
In The Playground, Lee Blalock, John Murphy and Suzanne Sebold activate the white cube gallery as an alternative space for learning. Blalock leads youth campers in an investigation of site-specific installation and mural art. Murphy works with Hyde Park Art Center teaching artists to reflect on the commonalities and divergences between the Artist Statement and the Teaching Philosophy, as manifestos of two distinct yet intimately related practices. Sebold demonstrates how these shared ideas come into being within the microcosm of an art class with students from North Kenwood/Oakland Charter School.
