As a part of stARTup Art Fair Chicago, Katherine Lampert and Kara Cobb Johnson together create Refuge, a two-part installation piece that uses visual pattern, rhythm, and abstracted shapes to excite perception and challenge utility. Lampert creates new work for the bed and boudoir; Johnson uses Op-Art as immersive “landscapes” and curating itself *see Jewelbox* in the living area and loo of Mile North’s Hyde Park Art Center sponsored Room 506. Video, embellished fabrics, paper, parachutes and vinyl decals transform the space from hotel room into immersive hyper-natural environment, contemporary art gallery and laboratory.
Jewel Box, a curated capsule collection from the Hyde Park Art Center’s community of talented artists will reimagine the loo as gallery. Work takes shape in a collaborative “tile work” and an unusual hotel travel kit including special plants, elixirs, and curios. Artists Rami George, Samantha Hill, Regin Igloria, Lynn Neuman, Seeds InService (Melissa Potter and Maggie Puckett), and Kunal Sen are featured. Exhibit activated by tours.
