The time has come for The Beast to go wherever it is that images go when they die. Join us for an afternoon of celebration and mourning in honor of the final hours of The Beast by John Preus.
Beginning at 12:30, psychotherapist, Peggy Firestone will tell the myth of Theseus and the Minotaur – a tale of sacrifice, seduction, and the disruption of the old order. Q&A to follow.
At 2:00, musician, Leroy Bach leads the Beast Allstars, laying down some grooves until 5:00. Bringing their energy, Hyde Park Art Center’s Youth Arts Board will also join in on the action, along with artists Adam Rose and Antibody Corporation.
The mic will be open for 5-minute contributions: to speak, sing, recite, yell, cry, thump, and dream out loud to wake The Beast, or sing him to sleep.
Two films by video artist Marco G. Ferrari will also be screening throughout the day:
Ferragosto (2013) takes a meditative look at the Costa Concordia, a shipwreck lodged off the coast of the Mediterranean island of Giglio.
Pebble Beach (work in progress) examines a shipwreck along Chicago’s lakeshore named the Silver Spray.
